Tips
This page provides basic suggestions for using Aviatlas.
Map Navigation
Zooming
Use your scroll wheel on the mouse to zoom in and out; double click the map to zoom that the locations; or use the zoom level bar on the left hand side of the map.
Panning
Pan around the map by simply clicking and dragging the map.
Map Mode
Choose from four different map modes in the top center drop down menu named 'Mode'.
Hint: Use the "Hybrid" mode to see the aerial photographs, location names and roads at the same time.
Hint: Sometimes data is not available closely zoomed in levels, simply zoom out one or two notches to see the mode that you choose.
Viewing map Markers: In the drop down menu labeled "View:Hotspots" you can turn off all markers by selecting "None" ; select "Hotspots" to show hotspots on the map; or select "People" to see public profile markers of Aviatlas users
Search
The Search Tab is located in the upper right of the screen. Aviatlas search helps you locate hotspots, members and places. For example let's say you wanted to plan a trip to Alamos, Sonora, Mexico - simply type in "Alamos" or "Alamos, Sonora" , press "Go" and Aviatlas will return all of the hotspots associated with Alamos. You can then click any of the results to view that item. Simply click another item and Aviatlas will automatically navigate to that location.
Hint: Narrow your results with the name of the region, state or country that you are interested in.
Tip: The entire Tab section in the Upper Left of the webpage can be collapsed in order to make map viewing easier by pressing the arrow at the bottom of the tab section. To expand the tab again simply click the desired tab or press the arrow again.
Latitude and Longitude Display Box
In the lower left corner of the map you will find a box that shows you the coordinates of the center of the map, which is marked by a small white crosshairs. You can also use this box to navitgate to a specific coordinate. Simply type in the coordinate you want to navigate to and press 'Go'.
Hint: double click on the map to recenter it to that location.
Hotspots
Creating A New Hotspot
To create or edit hotspots the you must have an account and be logged in.
To create a new hotspot mouse over the "Create New" drop down menu in the middle top of the map and select "Hotspot".
From here make sure you have the location correct by zooming in close enough to recognize the precise location of the hotspot on the map. Click on the map to place the marker then press "OK" to confirm the location. If you have place the marker in the wrong location simply click and drag the marker to the correct location. At anytime you can cancel the new hotspot and return to browsing the map. Once your hotspot location has been confirmed a blank Hotspot window will pop-up. Here you can enter any amount of information you like, however please be sure to include a title, type and a short description. Once you are finished editing the information be sure to press the "Save" button.
Tip: Be sure to follow the prompting directions provided by Aviatlas when creating a new hotspot.
Editing Hotspots
To edit a Hotspot you must have an account and be logged in. Simply click "Edit Info" in the Hotspot pop-up window to add or edit information displayed. Scroll to the desired section and begin editing. At any time you can Save or Cancel the editing process. If by chance you have made a grave mistake, don't fret, you can always revert to a previously saved version by clicking on "View edit history". From here you can view previously saved versions and select one to revert back to.
The content on Aviatlas is edited and managed by the users so it relies on people like you to help fill in content that you want to share. As a result you'll find information on very specific and remote locations that you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

Photos
You can add photos to any hotspot you like as long as you have an account and are logged in. Simply click "Upload Photo" to arrive at a gateway to browse your desktop for a photo. Click browse and navigate to the desired photograph. Once the desired photograph is chosen click 'Upload Photo" to add the photo to the Hotspot.
Hint: Be sure to title your photo before uploading!
Tip: The smaller the size of your photograph the quicker it will upload, we suggest smaller than 600x600 pixels or around 250kb.
Note: Due to the danger of running out of storage, Aviatlas has limited the number of photos that can be uploaded to a given hotspot to five. If five photos have already been added to the hotspot you can delete any of the five in order to make room for a new photo. Please do this selectively. This limit may be removed after an assessment in the near future.
Privacy
It is important to Aviatlas that users have the ability to keep certain information private. By choosing to keep your profile private it will not be shown on the map nor shared with other users. The trips you create may also be shared with the Aviatlas community, or by simply clicking "private" in the drop down menu, it will be locked up for safe keeping.
