Description:
A traditional nesting spot for Common Black-hawk, this area is an easy stopover enroute to the Catwalk. Large ponds may hold wintering and mirgant waterfowl (especially the further, wooded pond).
Habitat:
Riparian (cottonwood, etc). lawns, surrounding juniper/pinon scrub
Target Birds:
Common Black-hawk, Zone-tailed Hawk, Northern Cardinal, Yellow-breasted Chat, Yellow-billed Cuckoo (summer), warblers
When To Go:
Anytime of year, but many of the specialty birds are present in summer.
Amenities:
The nearby town of Glenwood has several hotels, a store, and a couple restaurants
Getting There:
Head north out of Silver City on Highway 180 for about an hour. The hatchery is at the junction of 180 and the spur road to the Catwalk in the town of Glenwood.
